BCU: Offering the best of both worlds to business

BCU - Let's Talk Banking

We are a community credit union owned by our members and unlike a bank, we have no external shareholders.

BCU remains firmly committed to the profit-sharing philosophy of credit unions, and our primary focus continues to be on serving the interests of our members and the communities in which we live and work.

We employ locals; we sponsor local clubs and community organisations, and when you do your banking with BCU your money stays in the local economy helping your community. Recent examples of high-profile sponsorships include:

  • 2007 BEX Tweed Business Excellence Awards
  • 2007 BCU Bill Ussher Agricultural Scholarship
  • 2007-2008 series of strategic planning workshops by Business Strategy Corporation Pty Ltd

BCU was formed in 1970 in northern NSW by a group of local business people who got together to help each other out. BCU has grown to become one of the largest regional credit unions in Australia, with 21 branches from Port Macquarie to Bundall on the Gold Coast.

BCU is a specialist in small-business lending and finance. Around 30 percent of our loans are to small business and we provide a broad range of business lending products and services through our specialist lenders in agri-business, small business and equipment leasing.

Our products and services have achieved national recognition. BCU has been awarded three "Best of the Best" Money Magazine awards and twice in a row we have been awarded five-star "superior" ratings in all four business categories by CANNEX, Australia's leading independent financial services research group.*
